Peru - Voluntary Work

Peru volontary work (10 days / 9 nights)

Day 1: ARRIVAL IN LIMA

Montréal – Lima flight. Arrival at Lima international airport by your tour guide and bus driver.

Transfer (30 minutes) in a private motor coach towards the hostal.

Free time for the remainder of the day WITHOUT MOTORCOACH.

Dinner at your own expense.

Overnight at the Lima hostal.

Day 2: LIMA – CUSCO (3400m)

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner Transfer towards Lima airport in the morning for a short flight (1 hour) towards Cusco.

Transfer and setting up at the hostal upon arrival in Cusco.

Lunch.

Free afternoon to slowly adapt to the altitude and to explore the ancient capital of the Inca Empire.

Evening possibility (without extra charge) of attending an Andean folk dances show at the native arts center (depending on availability).

Dinner and overnight at the hostal.

Day 3: CUSCO – HUAYLLAFARA (3200m)

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner Tour of the town in the morning with stops at the Temple of the Sun and its Inca remains and four archaeological sites uptown: Saksaq Waman, the ancient fortress, Q’enko, the mummification room, Puka Pukara, the red sentinel and Tambomachay, the bath of the Inca.

Lunch.

Departure towards Huayllafara (around 1h30). Huayllafara is a small isolated community located on the foothills of the Sacred Valley of the Incas where locals live exclusively from “pachamama” agriculture, the « Mother Earth” cultivation method maintaining ancestral Andean traditions. Setting up with the community families and first discovery of the Andean rural way of life. Dinner and overnight with the locals (rural amenities, no running water, no electricity).


Day 4: HUAYLLAFARA

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner Lend a hand for the community activities: agricultural work, improvement of the residences, renovation of the school, improvement of the irrigation system, etc. It will give you an idea, in a day, of what is the rural Andean way of life.

Lunch.

Organization, in the afternoon, of a snack for the children of the community.

Dinner and overight with the locals.

Day 5: HUAYLLAFARA – PISAC – OLLANTAYTAMBO – SACRED VALLEY (2700M)

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner Breakfast with the community inhabitants.

Departure towards Pisac, a small village located at the heart of the Sacred Valley. Visit of the archaeological site overlooking the entire valley and considered one of the major and most complex sites after Machu Picchu. Following with the exploration of the handcraft market considered one of the most colourful and rich of the country.

Lunch.

Departure towards Ollantaytambo along the Vilcanota River. Tour of the site of the ancient fortress that once was the theatre of a great victory against the conquistadores and exploration of the village, a true living museum.

Short trip at the end of the afternoon towards the hostal setting up located in the Sacred Valley.

Dinner and overnight in the Sacred Valley.


Day 6: SACRED VALLEY – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner Morning transfer to Ollantaytambo train station in order to board the famous Andean train that snakes around the mountain all the way to Aguas Calientes, the small town at the foot of Machu Picchu. Shuttle to the Machu Picchu entry and complete visit of the urban and rural sections with the incredible mountain side constructions owing it the name « Lost city of the Inca ».

Return to Aguas Calientes with the shuttle.

Lunch.

Train departure in the afternoon towards Cusco.

Dinner and overnight at the hostal.


Day 7: CUSCO – LLACHON (3800m)

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner Morning departure in direction of Llachon (6 hours) through the wild scenery of the Altiplano and crossing of the La Raya Mountain Pass (4300m) which marks the separation between the waters of the Pacific Ocean and those of the Atlantic.

Lunch Afternoon: Arrival in Llachon which is a small community on the Capachica peninsula, on the shores of Lake Titicaca that has proved able to maintain the regional traditions. Setting up with the families before enjoying the sumptuous landscapes of Lake Titicaca.

Dinner and overnight with the locals (rural amenities, no running water).

Machu Picchu


Day 8: LLACHON

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner The day is dedicated to the discovery of the community inhabitants’ activities. Possibility of a short hike on the peninsula to get a panoramic view of Lake Titicaca.

Dinner and overnight with the locals.


Day 9: LLACHON – JULIACA – LIMA

Meals: breakfast + lunch + dinner Transfer to Juliaca airport (in the morning or in the afternoon depending of the time of your flight) in order to take a flight towards Lima.

Transfer to the hostal and arrival in Lima.

Lunch.

Free time at the end of the day to explore the Peruvian capital which gathers the third of the entire country’s population.

Dinner and overnight at the hostal.


Day 10: DEPARTURE FROM LIMA

Meals: breakfast

Transfer to Lima airport at the end of the day.

Lima – Montréal flight.
