Nicaragua - Voluntary work
DescriptionFounded in 1989, the Romero center is dedicated to helping the children, women and farmers of Nicaragua.
Its goal is to promote cooperative projects for cultural, social and economic developments of less fortunate people in the Nandaime region.
Some of the projects change the lives of the inhabitants: biological school farm, folkloric dance group, community radio, crafting, natural medicine clinic, bakery, day-care center…
Hammocks and bracelets made on site by the craftsmen are sold in Québec following the fare trade principles.
This experience offered by the Romero Center is more than a trip in another country to take pictures or learn Spanish.
This is an opportunity to live in a community, to discover another reality and to develop a direct contact with the residents. The way those people live is really different then ours. The participants will learn a lot about the many cultures differences and it will be the beginning of a new “way of thinking” that leads us on the path to become a responsible person.
As you saw in the previous itinerary, the participants will spend the first days at the Casa Juvenil in order to familiarize themselves to their new surroundings and have time to adapt.
After some days, the participants are invited to stay in families chosen by the Romero Center. The families are located in the same quarter, a five-minute walk from the center. There is always a member of the family who is working at the Romero center, adult or children. Spirale strongly suggests one participant per family.
