DAY 1: MONTREAL – CANCUN

Flight from Montreal.

Arrival in Cancun and transfer to your accommodation by private motor coach.

DAY 2: CANCUN / TULUM / VALLADOLID

Breakfast.

Discovery of Tulum’s archaeological site. Tulum is small and beautiful. Geographically located on the banks of the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea. Under the Mayan empire, Tulum was named Zama, or « Dusk City ». It is in fact a dreamed site to enjoy a sunrise over the sea. It as been renamed Tulum (meaning «fortress» in Mayan) because it has imposing fortifications on the sides and in front (5 to 7 meters high). Behind sparkles the sea, from where attacked the enemies of this civilization.

Then on to Valladolid.

DAY 3: VALLADOLID / CHICHEN ITZA / MERIDA

Breakfast.

Departure towards Chichen Itza. It is one of the most important Mayan sites. The main building is « El Castillo ». Its head is decorated with Quetzacoatl’s symbol. Appreciate the ballroom and its high walls, walk along the sacred path to the Cenote Sagrado, the sacrificial well.

In the afternoon, pursue your journey towards Yucatan peninsula’s capital, Merida.

This colonial city was built over its own ruins by Spanish conquistadors on January 6, 1542. Throughout the years, Merida has transformed into a city open to new ideas as well as to visitors. Its center is the Plaza Mayor, green and shady. The Plaza Mayor is surrounded by the famous cathedral and its twin towers dating back to the 16th century, the National Palace and the Casa Montejo which was built in 1549 by the region’s conquistador, Francisco de Montejo. Merida is famous for its atmosphere and lively markets where you can find local craft and products.

DAY 4: : MERIDA / IZAMAL / TIXKOKOB

Breakfast

Departure towards Izamal. This modern town is a seductive union of pre-Columbian relics and Spanish colonial buildings. We can still see a score of typical Mayan constructions like the imposing K’inich K’ak’mo pyramid, one of the largest in Yucatan. During Mayan times, this city was one of the most important religious sites. Izamal has become a center point for the conversion of the Mayans to Christianity by the Spaniards. Fray Diego de Landa founded the enormous convent and the church which now face the Plaza.

In the afternoon, on the way back to Merida, visit Tixkokob, a small Mayan village.

DAY 5: CELESTUN

Breakfast.

Half-day boat excursion to discover Celestun’s lagoon.

DAY 6: CUZAMA (CENOTES) / SISAL HACIENDA

Breakfast.

Start your day with Cuzama’s Cenotes. One of the charms that distinguish Yucatan’s peninsula is the cenotes which name comes from the Mayan « dzonot », meaning water filled cavity. The cenotes are world unique underground rock formations. In addition to being a primordial source of water in the jungle, they are sacred grounds for the Mayans who thought they were entries for the spiritual world.

In the afternoon, you’ll go to the Sisal Hacienda. Traveling through Yucatan’s henequen haciendas is incredible. In former times, these places were the basis and the lifeblood of the region’s economy and today, they preserve this lifestyle’s heritage.

DAY 7: LOLTUN / UXMAL

Breakfast.

This morning, you’ll discover the Loltun Caves.

Continuation towards Uxmal.

In the evening, you’ll witness a light and sound show in Uxmal.

DAY 8: UXMAL / CANCUN

Breakfast.

This morning, tour Uxmal. Located in the Puuc Mountains, Uxmal was one of the most important cities of the late classical period. The history of the city is uncertain but most of the buildings date back to the 7th – 10th centuries, time when Uxmal dominated the entire region.

Transfer towards Cancun.

Dinner and overnight in Cancun.


DAY 9: CANCUN

Breakfast at the hotel.

NO TRANSPORTATION OR TOUR GUIDE FOR THE DAY.

Free day to enjoy the beach.

OPTION: Possibility of a one-day excursion including lunch towards Isla Mujeres. You will be able to do a many activities: cycling, games, raffle and diving (equipment non-included, available on-site).
