Latin America - Costa Rica Ecotourism

Description

Costa Rica is Central America's jewel. It's an oasis of calm among its turbulent neighbours and an ecotourism heaven, making it one of the best places to experience the tropics with minimal impact. It's also mostly coastline, which means great surfing, beaches galore and a climate built for laziness.

Costa Rica's enlightened approach to conservation has ensured that lush jungles are home to playful monkeys, languid sloths, crocodiles, countless lizards, frogs and a mind-boggling assortment of exotic birds, insects and butterflies. Meanwhile, endangered sea turtles nest on both coasts and cloud forests protect elusive birds and jungle cats.

Costa Rica Ecotourism – 8 days / 7 nights

DAY 1 : CANADA – COSTA RICA

Flight to San Jose – Costa Rica.

Upon arrival at San Jose International Airport, the group will be met by the tour leader who will escort you to your hotel in San Jose. San Jose is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city with all the conveniences of other modern cities. The sprawling capital is nestled in the fertile “Valle Central” (Central Valley) and surrounded on all sides by large forested mountain ranges, some of which include active volcanoes, perennially green savannahs and working coffee plantations.

Overnight in San Jose.

DAY 2 : SAN JOSE – PUERTO VIEJO

Breakfast.

Departure for Irazu Volcano. The park that includes this volcano covers 2309 hectares, its highest point being 3432 meters above sea level. There are two theories for the name “Irazu”, one being that it’s a combination of “ara” (point) and “tzu” (thunder), and the other being that it’s named after “Istaru”, a 16th century Indian palisade built in the nearby town of Cot. The park is remarkable because of its surreal lunar landscape. There are two main craters, one is called the “Diego de la Haya” crater that contains a strangely colour lake (some days it’s light green and others it’s red) and the other is 300 meters (900 feet) deep.

Transfer to Puerto Viejo de Limon.

Lunch on the way to Puerto Viejo.

If time allows, Free time at the end of the day for swimming in the pool or at the beach.
