Europe - Spain : Madrid to Barcelona

Description

Flamenco, bullfighting and castanets, such are the clichés to which Spain is reduced too often. The extravagant temperament of the Spaniards and the summer sun have long attracted tourists from the mists of Northern Europe. Yet the country has much more to offer than concrete beaches of modern residences. Mosaic of regions as diverse as the Basque Country, Andalusia, Catalonia or the mysterious Galicia, the beyond the Pyrenees deserves more than one trip. This ancient conquering empire is rooted in a secular history immortalized by painters such as Velasquez, Goya, or more recently, Picasso and Dali. Today more than ever, Spain is showing a cultural dynamism and a sense of celebration unmatched in Europe.
