DAY 1: CANADA – GREECE

Flight towards Athens.


DAY 2: ATHENS – TOLO

On arrival at Athens’ airport you will meet your bus driver who will escort you to your private motor coach.

Departure towards the Argolids, Atrids’s cradle and pilgrimage site for classical culture followers.

Stop at the Corinth Canal.

Lunch at your own charge

Continuation towards Tolo.

Dinner and overnight in Tolo.

DAY 3 : NAUFPLION – MYCENAE

Breakfast

Self-guided tour of Naufplion which was Greece’s first capital. Naufplion was the site of the first constituted Greek government after the revolt against the Turks.

Make a stop at Palamede’s fortress. It dominates the city and the bay of Naufplion. On its high walls, that were began by the French and continued by the Venetians, waved for the first time, in 1822, the flag of the new Greece.

Lunch at your own charge

Departure towards Mycenae, was the center of power in the Archaic period, and the excavated ruins sculpt the top of a rocky hill protected by the famous Cyclopean walls.

Back to Tolo.

DAY 4 : TOLO – ÉPIDAURO – POROS – TOLO

Breakfast

Departure towards Epidauro, where you will visit the Theatre of Epidauro, constructed by Policleto the Young in IV century A.C., can contain more than 14 thousands spectators. It is perfectly conserved and still today in summer plays and musicals are represented here. The amphitheatre has 55 rows of seats and has a wonderful acoustics: in the last row, that is about sixty metres from the stage, the spectators can perfectly distinguish the voice of the actors, without these being forced to elevate their voice tone.

Continuation towards Galatas. Board a ferry on the way to Poros island.

Rest of the day is free in Poros for souvenir shopping.

Back to Galatas by ferry and to Tolo by bus.

DAY 5: TOLO – SPARTA – OLYMPIA

Breakfast

Departure towards Sparta for the tour of Mistra site. Mistra is a Byzantine city that lies at the feet of mount Taigeto, where once there was the famous city of Sparta, of which today, unfortunately, doesn’t remain any sign. In the medieval time, Mistra was a city of great splendour, but it decayed under the Turks and was set to fire by the Albanian troops in 1779. Among its ruins still survive some beautiful Byzantine churches.

Dinner and overnight in Olympia.


DAY 6 : OLYMPIA – DELPHI

Breakfast

This morning, visit of the Olympia archaeological site. In the old times, in Olympia every four years there were sport competitions in honour of the Gods. Such competitions became so famous, that in 776 A.C. the Greeks began to count the years according to the succeeding of the Olympic Games. The ruins of Olympia include the Gymnasion, the Arena, the temple of Zeus and the Stadium.

Departure for Patras, Greece’s fourth city and important harbour linking Greece to Italy as well as to the Ionian islands.

Cross to Rio by the ferry crossing the Corinth Canal which will lead you to center Greece, to Antirrion more precisely.

Continuation towards Delphi.

DAY 7 : DELPHI – KALAMBAKA

Breakfast

Self-guided tour of Delphi site. Delphi, the centre of most famous oracle of the ancient times, lies in a wonderful valley along the southern side of the Parnassus. The Castalia source, where the ancient oracle Pythia foretold the future, spills water just the same as many centuries ago, surrounded by the ruins of the Stadium and the temples of Apollo and Tholos.

DAY 8 : KALAMBAKA – ATHENS

Breakfast

Today, visit of the Meteora Monasteries (Plan about 4 Euros/monasteries. NOTE : Girls MUST wear skirts (knee length) for this visit). The word Meteora means literally ‘hovering in the air’ and of course brings to mind the word meteor. What created this rare geological phenomenon is one of the mysteries of nature and there are many theories though they remain theories and none have been proven. But as amazing a marvel of nature as these giant rocks are the buildings on the top of these are a marvel of man and seem just as miraculous and make Meteora one of the most spectacular places to visit in Greece.

Back to Athens via the Thermopiles.

DAY 10 : CAPE SOUNION – ATHENS

Breakfast

Self-guided tour of Cape Sounion (½ journée). This is the most southern tip of Attic. On the summit overlooking the sea there is the temple of Poseidon, built in the V century A.C.

DAY 11:GREECE – CANADA

Breakfast

Transfer by bus to Athens’ airport.
